What is Microneedling and how does it work?

Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), also known as microneedling, is a minimally invasive medical-grade skin-rejuvenation procedure. A licensed skin care professional glides a device containing fine needles over the skin in a cross link or circular pattern. These needles puncture the epidermal layers of the skin to create controlled microscopic subcutaneous injuries (channels), triggering the body's natural healing process to fill each channel with new collagen and elastin. These microscopic channels in the skin also allow for optimal absorption of the nutrient-rich enhancement serum. Through the natural repair process, there is visable improvement in skin texture and firmness within as little as three weeks.

Microneedling is effective for:

Did you know?

Skin collagen production goes dormant after age 25, which is why and when you begin to see signs of aging. Collagen Induction Therapy (microneedling) is the only proven treatment to stimulate both collagen types 1 (skin) and 3 (reticulate) for up to two years after treatment is complete.

Treatments

Although minor improvements can be seen with just one microneedling treatment, the number of sessions depends on your current skin condition and goals. For this reason, we first do a Skincare Consultation.

Microneedling Aftercare

The professional strength CIT Enhancement Serum can be needled into the skin and used post treatment. Continual daily use of the serum will boost and extend the effects of microneedling and help reduce the appearance of hyper-pigmentation, scaring, fine lines, Rosacea and enlarged pore size. It also adds much needed hydration to treated and or aging skin, which provides a more supple and youthful glow.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Is microneedling painful?

The variety of needle cartridges and adjustable needle depth allows treatment to be customized to your needs and comfort level. Application of a local anesthetic numbing cream is available to prevent discomfort.

Can microneedling be used on all skin colours and types?

Yes. There is no risk of post-inflammatory hyper-pigmentation as the melanocytes in the epidermis remain intact (as long as post-care instructions are followed).

When should I expect to see results?

Results are typically seen within three weeks and continue to enhance for months afterwards, as the skin continues to repair itself. Although improvement is noticeable after just one treatment, a series of treatments may be recommended for optimum results depending on your expectations and goals.

What should I expect after a microneedling treatment?

Immediately following treatment, your skin will have some redness and flushed appearance like a moderate sunburn. You will also experience skin tightness and mild sensitivity. After 24-36 hours there is little to no evidence of injury to the treated area; however, you may experience some peeling, depending on the depth.

Are there any side effects to microneedling?

Recovery is typically very rapid and negative side effects should not occur if you are properly following aftercare. As the microscopic channels close quickly, post-treatment skin infection is extremely rare. Swelling is rare and mild acne flare ups may happen after treatment, if you are already prone to acne. If any of these symptoms persist and/or worsen, seek immediate medical attention. Topical antibiotics may be prescribed if necessary.
